Welcome to Ladybank Golf Club 1879

Those of us who are fortunate enough to play Ladybank on a regular basis are fulsome in our praise of the course and its surroundings. On a fine summer's day there is no finer place on earth - there is no doubt in our minds that this is a course of outstanding quality and rare beauty.

For visitors interested in the natural beauty of their surroundings Ladybank also provides valuable wildlife habitat for a range of flora and fauna, which is both locally and nationally uncommon. As well as providing character and definition to the course the abundance of woodland, grassland and heather is important to a wide range of wildlife. Red squirrels, in decline in the UK, are resident in the proliferation of Scots pines in and around the course. Their larger brethren, the grey squirrel, can be found in the broad-leaved species of beech tree in the avenue leading to the Clubhouse.

Our objective is the provision of a quality service to complement a quality course. We will endeavour to try and meet your individual needs to ensure you enjoy and remember your Open Qualifying Experience at Ladybank!

Ladybank

Ladybank Golf Club was formed on 23rd July 1879 at a meeting held in the now extinct Royal Hotel. At the first Annual General meeting the membership totalled 26 and the entry fee and annual subscription at that time were both half a guinea. Visitors or 'Strangers' as they were termed, were welcomed and charged what they wished to give and no more.

Old Tom Morris of St Andrews was engaged to lay out the original course which consisted of six holes outward, these being played in reverses on the inward half. In recognition of his assistance, Tom Morris was permitted to play in the Club's second competition, the 1879 Autumn Meeting, which he won with a net 60 for twelve holes, playing under a penalty of 3 strokes.

Set in the sheltered Howe of Fife with the Lomond Hills to the southwest the course has risen to become one of Scotland's finest inland tracts consisting of heathland avenues delineated by Scots Pine, Silver Birch and swathes of heather. The standard of preparation is always exceptional. Red squirrels inhabit the trees in a quiet and peaceful place where one can play without distraction. There are many holes worth mention but the 9th is memorable, a superb dog-leg with a deep dip just before the green which lies in front of a newly refurbished clubhouse.

This course is a picturesque but demanding test of golf, a fact that has been recognised in Ladybank's selection since 1978 as final qualifying course whenever the Open Championship is held at St Andrews. 'Strangers' are still welcome though the system of charging has changed somewhat!
